Wonderfully & Marvelously Made

We’re less than three weeks away from the world premiere of my new play, A GIRL’S GUILT TRIP, and I’m in my feelings! I want to give God the Glory for planting the idea for the play in my soul and for nurturing and watering it until it flowed from my heart, soul, and mind onto the page. I thank Him for the characters, for the story, and the message of friendship, family, and forgiveness, and most of all, I thank Him for the people, who I believe, He chose before He laid down the foundation of the earth, to partner with me in this anointed endeavor.

Auditioning for and accepting a role in a stage play is a huge feat. It’s not for the faint of heart. It’s time consuming and it takes a lot to develop a character, to learn lines, and blocking, and to capture the director’s vision. You may have to stop watching your favorite programs, you may have to skip hanging out with your besties, you may have to get up extra early and go to bed extra late, but when it’s all said and done, it will be worth it, because there’s nothing like being on that stage, in the moment, in the character you have brought to life, saying the writer’s words with truth and passion, and touching the audience. And then there’s the curtain call where you take that bow to thunderous applause. Then you walk out of your dressing room after you’ve shed your character’s clothes and you become yourself again, and you’re greeted by family, friends, and strangers. They are smiling, crying, hugging you, telling you how amazing it all was, and in that moment, you know that you’re living your dream, your purpose, and your best life.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for accepting your assignment, Marlynne Frierson-Cooley, Heather Daughtry, Al LaFleur, Melissa Kaye Bontempt,  Lorinda Hawkins Smith, Amani Rose, and Myers Clark!

I also want to thank the angels supporting us—our production staff, Susan Bacon, Carolyn Johnson, Cheri Darling, Michelle Vasquez, Blanca Chivichon, Leonard Conner, and Tyreese Burnett and last, but definitely not least, the man of my dreams, my hubby and biggest fan, Roy Thomas!
